African SunBest Safari Tours to Namib Desert in Namibia

The Republic of Namibia is a country located in the southwestern region of Africa with capital city at Windhoek. It isn't very well known worldwide, but in the recent years its popularity increased significantly on the international travel scene due to some of the best African safari tours and trips organized in the Namib Desert. Namibia features very dry lands on most of its territory, excepting the northeastern part (known as the Bushveld), where the precipitations are much more significantly than in the rest of the country. Due to the harsh climate, in this African country are settled two of the most impressive deserts on the planet, Kalahari and the Namib Desert.

The Namib Desert is located along the Atlantic Ocean, in the eastern part of Namibia, and comprises two distinct areas – the Skeleton Coast (one of the most famous landmarks of the country) & the Kaokoveld (considered amongst the richest deserts in the world, with 63 recorded species!) in north and the Namib Sand Sea (with some of the largest sand dunes on the planet!), stretching from the central coast to south. Most people consider the most arid regions on Earth as death areas, without any form of life, opinion which is false because of the fact that to life conditions in desert are adapted many plants and animals. The Namib Desert has several characteristics which make it an unique ecosystem: it is the second oldest desert in the world, is stretching on 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometers) along the Atlantic Ocean (because of this neighborhood the western part is often covered by fog), and there are a few plant species that can't be found in any other place.

Because of the unique features of the Namib Desert, to this travel destination are available some of the best safari tours that allow holiday makers to see forms of life specific to arid zones. One of the most popular safari packages to Namibia takes 5 days (the "Day Northern Tour") and includes in its itinerary the capital city of Windhoek, the Gamsberg Pass, the Naukluft National Park (where can be seen plenty of oryx, springbok and ostriches), Swakopmund (where can be enjoyed sand-surfing!), Twyfelfontein (one of the best spots in Africa for admiring rock art), the Burnt Mountain and Organ Pipes, impressive due to the 120 million years old red stone structures!

A another very rewarding trip is the "15 Day Classic Namibia Tour" which takes two weeks and includes the best attractions that Namibia has to offer - the Kalahari Desert, the Fish River Canyon, Sossusvlei (with unique 300 meters high and 480 kilometers long orange sand dunes waving beyond the horizon in the Namib Desert), the Sesriem Canyon, Swakopmund, Otjiwarongo and Etosha National Park (great for spotting plenty of lions, springboks, rhinos, giraffes, zebras and elephants), and Lake Otjikoto, with rich bird life.

Other excellent safari tours in Namibia are the "Namibia Flying Safari" (allowing vacationers to see the most important landmarks and natural treasures of the country both from land and air) and the "Southern Tour and Desert Express", a thrilling adventure including the crossing of the impressive Namib Desert in comfortable train cabins!

Holiday makers looking for the best safari tours and African vacations are literally enchanted after spending several days or weeks exploring Namibia and its natural wonders! As result, this country is becoming slowly one of the leading tourist African countries, making more and more people to benefit on its beauty and unique characteristics.
